New portfolio site!

Hi!

Well, it was a long time in the making and something that had to be done. I finally got around to producing a site that not only is clean and simple in it's format, but is also meant to be the 1 CLEAR AND ALL INCLUSIVE site to see my work! I even decided to show some animation this time (even though I'm not looking for any animation work so please don't call me for that). I tried different sites and multiple sites, and all sites in between and it was just clogging up my email signature and confusing people as to where to go to get updates on my work. I'm still trying to clean up a lot of things and there are a ton of things I WANT to show that I CAN'T show as yet. Please keep checking back on the site for new work. So without further craziness I give you....

An old buddy and studiomate Mike Wieringo passes away....

I'm sorry to pass the news along this morning that my good friend and Artamus Studios studiomate Mike Wieringo has passed away from what apparently was a heart attack. Details are still coming in but this is certainly tragic news and all I know right now. Mike and I were apartment mates and studio mates in the early/mid 90's and the news of his passing is both tragic and eye opening as to how fragile life is and our time spent here. Mike was a fantastic illustrator and one of the best comic book artists in the industry. It was indeed a pleasure to watch him work and gain popularity with the fans. Even more than being a superior artist he was a fantastic human being who always went out out of his way for people and had a positive influence on everyone that had the pleasure to know him. I consider myself very lucky to have called Mike my friend. I am a better person and a better artist from his influence. His talent and friendship will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all.My sincere condolenses to the Wieringo family. You are in my prayers and my thoughts in this difficult time.Thank you Mike for all the good times, good laughs, and great comics. I'll miss you buddy. Rest in peace.Craig GilmorePlease visit http://mikewieringo.com/ to see what a great talent Mike was. A endless source of creativity.

"Surface" rough concept and finish paint

With the holidays coming up and since I'm in the middle of a big project, I havent done much sketching (at least not that I can post legally because of contacts). I'm gonna have to cheat a little bit and post some previously done work. I thought it might be fun to post a couple of images of the same project at different stages in production. This example was one of the concept pieces I did for NBC on the "Surface" tv show. This particular piece was for an episode on Cryptozoology and I did a number of images based on 'mysterious/rarely seen' creatures i.e. bigfoot, etc. The first one is the finished paint and the second one the inked rough submitted for concept approval. I wanted to post the thumbnail images from my initial thought process but can't seem to find them in the stacks of drawings in the studio. If I come across them, I'll post them at another time. Hope you enjoy and if you do let me know! I'll do similar posts in the future.

Happy Holidays!
